HDMI input issues with Philips PFL7422 TV

An input problem I’m having with my new Philips HDTV and Comcast DVR cable box. I’m still trying to figure out if my specific TV is defective, or if this issue is specific to this Tv in general, or if it’s an issue with the type of cable box I have. I have no issues with any other devices connected to my HDTV. That includes a DVD Player, PS3, Wii, and Xbox. I have the latest firmware as of posting.

I’m getting no picture from my HDMI dvd player on a similar TV

  • yortnoraa says:

its not the dvr its the feature on your tv, this is because Your PS3 was sending a signal to the TV as well as the DVR and DVD When U turn off a device the signal stops, So by U going to the input for a device without the device turned on your tv will not read a signal and show U that error msg. This is why on the newer model tv if u try to go to a input that nothing is connected to or not turned on, the tv will not even go to that input to avoid that problem. Its not PS#, DVD, or DVR.

Don’t matter I got HDMI and have no issues at all they work great.

  • euchreman says:

I agree on cable there is no difference. But I played my PS3 with no HDMI until I got mine in. I notice a difference in the game as well as Blu Ray. And as far as I can see there is no difference between a $100 HDMI cable and a $4 HDMI. I’ve watched on both and if there is it isn’t much.

I did cable installations for Comcast for 3 years and became an engineer. Never, out of the the thousands of TVs that i’ve installed, have i decided that HDMI gives any substantial quality differences that would make me go purchase a set. And no, they are not all the same, when you are transfering data accross enclosed copper gladded cable, the design is very important especially when it comes to the designs of the dialectric layers of the cable as well as how smooth the gladding is layed out.

  • euchreman says:

There is a difference. And HDMI is not bad news so long as you don’t spend a lot of money on them since there is no reason. All HDMI cables are pretty much created equal. I found some for 4 dollars bought 6 of them just to have extra. They work beautifully and there is no difference between mine and a 100 dollar set.

  • turbodr3ams says:

you can’t honestly tell me that you see a big difference in HDMI and HD component cables. Use component, HDMI is bad news.

  • euchreman says:

You’ve probably figured this out but when using a dvr it won’t let you use HDMI so you can’t copy an HD movie. There is no fix that I know of yet but I keep looking.

I really, really like the picture quality on my phillips TV. It has one of the best pictures of any TV I’ve seen. It’s clear in and colorful in HD, fast and responsive in unscaled gaming, and the biggest plus is that it does a very good job at upscaling standard definition content. Over 80% of channels are still regular TV. In picture quality it’s A+

There’s a huge thread about this TV at AVSforum. I would read that. There are 6000 replies and the first page lists negatives.

That’s a 20 Gig. I made sure to pick up a used one from gamestop for full backwards compatibility. I need to pick up a 2.5″ hard drive to upgrade the space if I want to play DMC4.
